California Residents: You Now Have a Simple Way to Reclaim Your Personal Data

California’s Delete Act (SB 362) gives residents a straightforward tool to take back control of their personal information.

Through a new state-run platform, Californians can submit one single request to require all registered data brokers to delete their personal data- no need to contact companies one by one.

How it works (free and official):
• Visit the Delete Request & Opt-Out Platform (DROP):
• Verify California residency
• Create a secure profile with basic identifying information
• Submit your deletion request and receive a confirmation ID
• Update your information later to improve matching accuracy

Beginning August 1, 2026, data brokers are legally required to process these requests.

Why this matters:
Data brokers collect, sell, and share personal information without most people ever realizing it. The Delete Act restores balance by giving individuals a clear, enforceable way to say “no.” One request. State enforcement. Real accountability.

This platform is administered by the California Privacy Protection Agency and applies statewide.

If you value personal privacy, this is a tool worth using.
