Have you ever wondered about those spray-painted utility markings on sidewalks and roadways?

Contractors are mandated by law to obtain a permit from the City for any work conducted in the public right-of-way. Additionally, they are required to notify “Underground Service Alert” at least 48 hours before undertaking any underground work. In response, utility companies are required to mark the locations of their facilities using colored paint.

The City mandates that these markings be removed or covered after construction is completed.
