Happy Birthday America
250 Years

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, I've found myself reflecting on what truly makes our nation extraordinary.
Driving through Upland this week, seeing American flags proudly waving, neighborhoods dressed in red, white, and blue, and families preparing for Independence Day reminds me that, despite our differences, we are united by something greater than ourselves, the enduring promise of America.
I am a first-generation American. My parents came here with little more than hope and the belief that America offered something found nowhere else on Earth: opportunity. They came not for guarantees, but for the chance to build a better life through hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. They taught me that freedom is a gift, opportunity is earned, and that when a country gives you the opportunity to succeed, you have a responsibility to give something back.
That same hope inspired our Founding Fathers. Two hundred and fifty years ago, 56 men pledged "their Lives, their Fortunes, and their sacred Honor" because they believed future generations deserved to live free.
Today, we ask whether America can remain the world's leader, the world's bank, the world's strongest military, and help solve the world's greatest challenges.
Those are important questions.
But I believe there is an even more important one:
Should America continue to be the world's hope?
Long before America became the world's economic or military superpower, it became a promise of hope, a promise that where you were born would not determine where you could go, that freedom was worth defending, and that ordinary people, through hard work, courage, and perseverance, could achieve extraordinary things.
For nearly 250 years, millions have come here because they believed in that promise. People have always been America's greatest strength, and hope is its greatest export.
The day America ceases to be a beacon of hope is the day we begin to lose sight of who we are and what our Founding Fathers sacrificed to create.
This Independence Day, may we protect that hope, cherish the freedoms entrusted to us, and leave this nation stronger than we found it.
From my family to yours, I wish you a safe and meaningful Fourth of July.
Happy 250th Birthday, America. God bless Upland, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
