Recommendations you can do

I wanted to take a moment to share a few simple reminders that can help keep our neighborhoods safe. While the Upland Police Department works hard every day to protect our community, the truth is that small, everyday actions by residents can make a big difference in preventing crime—especially when routines change or homes are left unattended.

As a reminder, the Upland Police Department encourages residents to take the following common-sense steps to reduce the risk of residential burglaries:

Lock Up
Always lock doors and windows, even when leaving for a short time. Many burglaries occur through unlocked entry points, including side gates and access doors to backyards or garages.

Light It Up
Keep the exterior of your home well lit at night. Motion-activated lighting can be especially effective at deterring unwanted activity.

Be a Good Neighbor
Stay aware of what’s happening in your neighborhood and report suspicious behavior to the police. Looking out for one another helps create safer, more connected communities.

Make It Look Occupied
Use timers on lights, televisions, or radios when you’re away. Avoid letting mail or packages pile up, which can signal that a home is unoccupied.

Secure Valuables
Keep jewelry, electronics, and other valuables out of sight and stored securely. Important documents should be kept in a safe, ideally one that is bolted down.

By taking these simple precautions, residents can help reduce opportunities for crime and play a role in keeping Upland safe.

If you notice suspicious activity, please contact the Upland Police Department at (909) 946-7624.
