RSL Aquatics A Family Built Mission Focused on Saving Lives and Strengthening the Community

In a region where pools, backyard water features, and recreational swimming are part of everyday life, water safety is not optional. It is essential. That responsibility is exactly what drives RSL Aquatics, a locally built organization that has spent decades equipping children and families with the skills needed to stay safe, confident, and prepared in and around water.

At the center of this organization is its founder, Rene Nowell, whose story reflects both determination and purpose. Rene began teaching swim lessons as a teenager, recognizing early on the gap in quality swim instruction and the real dangers facing children who lack basic water safety skills. What started as a small backyard swim program quickly grew as more families recognized the value of her approach, focused not just on swimming technique but on survival skills, awareness, and confidence.

Together with her husband, Dave Nowell, the Nowell family transformed that early effort into a respected and well established aquatic program that has now served generations of families across the region. Their journey is one of steady growth, built on trust, reputation, and an unwavering commitment to a simple principle. Teaching children to swim saves lives.

That principle is grounded in reality. Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death among children, particularly in communities where access to pools is widespread. Too often, these incidents occur silently and within seconds. The Nowell family has made it their life’s work to address this risk directly through education, prevention, and consistent high quality instruction.

RSL Aquatics approaches swim education with a structured, progressive curriculum designed to meet swimmers at every stage of development. Their Parent and Me classes introduce infants and toddlers to the water in a safe, controlled environment, helping both children and parents build comfort and familiarity early on. This early exposure is critical in reducing fear and establishing foundational safety habits.

As students progress, beginner lessons emphasize essential life saving skills such as floating, breath control, body positioning, and basic movement through the water. These are not simply techniques. They are survival tools. Intermediate and advanced levels build on that foundation by refining stroke mechanics, improving endurance, and strengthening overall swimming ability. For those pursuing higher level performance, RSL also offers swim team preparation and advanced training opportunities.

Importantly, RSL Aquatics serves the entire community, not just children. Adult swim lessons provide an opportunity for individuals who may have never learned to swim or who want to build confidence later in life. Lap swim programs offer a space for fitness, conditioning, and continued skill development. This inclusive approach ensures that water safety is accessible to all residents, regardless of age or experience level.

What truly distinguishes RSL Aquatics is its instructional model. Small class sizes ensure that each student receives focused, individualized attention. Instructors are trained not only to teach technique but to build confidence and reinforce safety awareness at every level. The environment is structured, disciplined, and supportive, creating a setting where students can progress efficiently while feeling secure.

Beyond the pool, the impact of RSL Aquatics extends throughout the broader community. Every child who learns to swim reduces risk. Every family that understands water safety is better prepared. Every lesson contributes to a culture of awareness and prevention that strengthens public safety as a whole.

This is not simply a business. It is a family driven mission. The Nowell family’s decades long commitment reflects a deep understanding of what is at stake. Their work represents a proactive investment in the well being of children, the confidence of families, and the long term safety of the community.

The value of swim education cannot be overstated. Teaching a child to swim is one of the most important steps a family can take to protect their child. It builds confidence, reduces fear, and provides a skill that can make the difference in a life threatening situation.
