September is National Preparedness Month
Are you and your family prepared for an emergency?

September is National Preparedness Month, a good reminder that emergencies rarely come with much warning. Whether it is an earthquake, wildfire, power outage, severe weather, or another unexpected event, taking a few simple steps ahead of time can make a major difference for you and your family.
Throughout September, I will be sharing a four-week Ready Upland Emergency Preparedness Series designed specifically for Upland residents. Each week will focus on one practical step families can take to become better prepared:
Week 1: Build Your Go Bag - what to pack, where to keep it, and how to make sure your household can leave quickly if needed.
Week 2: Make a Family Emergency Plan — establish meeting locations, communication plans, evacuation routes, and an out-of-area contact.
Week 3: Know Your Risks - understand the emergencies most likely to affect Upland and what actions to take when they occur.
Week 4: Stay Informed & Get Involved — sign up for emergency alerts, know where to find reliable information, and learn how programs such as CERT can help strengthen our community.
Each week will also include a simple household preparedness exercise and best practices that residents can complete together.
Preparedness does not have to be complicated or expensive. The goal is to take it one week at a time, make a plan before an emergency happens, and help ensure that every Upland household is ready to respond when it matters most.
Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay Upland Strong.
