I want residents to be aware that the City of Upland is launching an important new effort: the development of our first comprehensive Parks and Open Space Master Plan, appropriately named “Upland Parks: A Vision for the Future.” This initiative marks a significant step forward in planning responsibly for the long-term needs of our community.

The Master Plan will serve as a practical roadmap for how the City invests in and manages parks, open space, recreation programs, and community services over the next five to ten years. Decisions related to park amenities, recreational opportunities, trail connections, walkability, and spaces for families and seniors alike will be shaped directly by community input. This is about ensuring our public spaces reflect how residents actually live, gather, and recreate.

Public participation is a critical part of this process. I encourage residents to take advantage of the upcoming community workshops and to complete the public survey that will be released as part of the planning effort. These forums provide a meaningful opportunity to share priorities, identify gaps, and help guide future investments in a thoughtful and fiscally responsible way.

Whether your interest is in active recreation, community events, quiet open spaces, or simply maintaining clean, safe, and accessible parks, your perspective matters. Broad participation will help ensure the final plan reflects the values of the entire community, not just a select few.

I hope you will consider getting involved and lending your voice as we plan for the future of Upland’s parks and open spaces.
