Weekly Public Works Update
Summary of Public Works Department actions for the week.


Public Works Department:
PW Engineering – Capital
11th Street Flashing Signal Beacon & Alley Improvements: The electrical meter pedestal (Myers cabinet) is a long lead item that is estimated to take 24 weeks for shipment (June 2025 expected delivery). Project will not begin construction until late Spring 2025.
14th Street Rehab: (Campus to Grove) A design kick-off meeting with the consultant is scheduled for 2/25/25.
Alpine / Vernon / Palm Rehab: Contractor and City are waiting on SCE to install the power conductor cable from the SCE transformer to the new electric meter pedestal so that the new streetlights can be energized. Punchlist walk performed with the contractor. Contractor is addressing outstanding items.
ARPA Alley Rehabilitation Phase 2: Contractor is currently constructing new asphalt concrete paving.
Grove Ave. Rehab: (Foothill Blvd. to 15th St.) A design kick-off meeting with the consultant is scheduled for 2/25/25.
Lexington / 1st Ave. / 2nd Ave Rehab: Contract, Bonds, and Insurance have been executed. Staff had a preconstruction meeting with the contractor on 2/12/25. Work tentatively scheduled to begin mid-March.
Metrolink Station Accessibility Improvements – Phase II: The contractor is working on inspection punch list items. Staff and Contractor are making timing adjustments to the traffic signal at Campus Ave & Washington (Bike Trail). Striping and new signs for Euclid Avenue is scheduled for installation on 2/27/25.
Parking Lot Rehab on the south side of “A” Street, 450 feet east of 3rd Ave. (adjacent to Eden Gardens Restaurant) Engineering staff had a preconstruction meeting with the contractor on 2/11/25. Contractor will begin the submittal process to the City for all materials to be used on the project.
Slurry Seal Project: Project is complete. Staff is preparing the contract completion documents. Project is tentatively scheduled for City Council acceptance on 3/10/25.
PW Operations
Operation crews cut out 5’ X 35’ section of asphalt from an uprooted tree. Weed abatement at 1st Avenue X C Street. Installed new trash cans at Memorial Park.

We received an update from Metropolitan Water District regarding the Rialto Pipeline maintenance shutdown, confirming that work remains on track for completion by February 25, with no anticipated extensions. Upland remains in good shape, utilizing local groundwater sources to meet demands during this period. Additionally, with our reliable local groundwater supply, we are able to support the City of Chino by providing up to 1 million gallons of water per day through our emergency interconnection as part of a water purchase agreement, helping our neighboring city navigate the shutdown.
This week our Water Distribution crew repaired a water main leak on the 1500 block of North Euclid Avenue. They were tasked with removing a large amount of tree roots, which was aided with the use of our newly acquired TruVaxx Hydro Excavation truck. This truck uses vacuum and a high-pressure water nozzle to safely excavate the desired area. Crew members were able to install a repair clamp once the leak was exposed without interrupting
